Every aspiring author begins with an inspired thought, a recurring dream, or a good ole stir in the belly. Regardless of how you’d like to describe the urge to write, it’ll weary the heck out of you until you do something. I like to think of it as the soul’s way of calling you to action. But, how do you answer the call? You answer with intentional and continuous action. The ability to be intentional and consistent takes work. For real!
Be intentional. That means you take time and make the effort to get clear early on. Write out your why’s and prepare your heart for the journey of writing. I’m not against inspired thought, but if you wait around for it, you may miss your opportunity to BE GREAT. So, be purposeful about framing out what it is you’d like to say, who you’d like to say it to and how. Don’t force it. If it feels hard, call for help.
Be constant. Check your commitment level and other demands on your time. It’ll help you get through times where you would normally feel conflicted. It’ll arm you with the permission and authority to say NO to unnecessary distractions. You’ll be able to work consistently toward your goal of becoming a published author. Think about it. The goal is to finish. Instead of trying to be a superhero and hating yourself for growing weary and never finishing; finish strong by being consistent. Remember, “The way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.” Author Unknown
